A prime illustration of contemporary architectural design of the 1930s
Ref Number: 213
At the intersection of “Macedonia” and “Stefan Karadzha” streets stands a multi-family residential building, constructed in the 1930s.
This stands as a prime illustration of contemporary architectural design. The project is authored by architect Zhelyazko Bogdanov. The structure bears the name “Tsar Krum,” honoring one of Bulgaria’s medieval rulers, Khan Krum, who reigned from 803 to 814.
The balconies are adorned with railings that showcase the initials of “Tsar Krum”, while the facade overlooking “Macedonia” street features a striking bas-relief of Khan Krum as a horseman, accompanied by a dog and a fierce lion. The piece was crafted by sculptor Kiril Shivarov and evokes the spirit of the medieval monument known as the “Madara horseman,” which proudly holds the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site today.
