The building was constructed in the early 20th century by the heirs of the renowned Bulgarian national revolutionary, public personality, and politician Ivan Drasov (1848-1901).
The home is situated on a corner lot with a spacious courtyard and features a straightforward design with elements typical of the Art Nouveau style.
Rear Admiral Ivan Variklechkov (1891-1924), a renowned Bulgarian naval commander, leased the residence in the 1920s. He completed his studies at the Military School in Sofia, specializing in artillery. He served in the coastal batteries and commanded submarine № 18. He served aboard German submarines in the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean during World War I. Captain of the torpedo boat “Courageous”.
Following Bulgaria’s withdrawal from the war, he transported French troops over the Danube River. He received the French Legion of Honor. He was appointed as the first acting rear admiral of the Bulgarian Navy on May 1st, 1937. Since that year, he has also served as the commander of the Marine Division. He received almost 20 orders, medals, and badges.
