Close to the main “Independence” square in Varna exists a wonderful new monument. A bronze figure of a man, sitting on a bench. This is a portrait sculpture of arch. Dabko Dabkov, a talented man, who created more than 350 buildings in Varna over a period of 40 years.

Dabko Petrov Dabkov was born on the 21st of January 1875 in Tryavna. He studied architecture in the Technical University in Munich, Germany. He graduated in 1899 and returned to Varna, where he settled and started to work first at the Town hall and from 1906 at his own architectural bureau. Among his many projects we can point out are that of the grand hotels “London” and “Musalla”, “Rankov” cinema, the Aquarium, Bank of Sofia and many others. Arch.

Dabkov died on April 8th 1945. On April 6th 2016 his monument, created by a local sculptor Vesselin Kostadinov, was unveiled by the Mayor of Varna. The monument stands close to the buildings, that the architect created in the past.
